Titles Are Hard
Voice practice has become a core part of my day. Will likely be that way for a while until I can get my voice perfect? Nah, to my satisfaction. I made a lot of progress today. It feels like it’s coming surprisingly easy. But it might just be the headspace I’m in and the process I'm using.
I’m following along various youtube video tutorials. Especially singing ones to improve range, since I’m interested in that as well. (Always loved music.) For the main practice, I wear headphones and have my computer set to loopback audio. I also have a https://pitchreader.com/ window open to watch where my pitch is at as I speak. Lets me be more conscious of my pitch and resonance. I usually repeat the instructor as well, for additional practice. Then on top of that, I open Windows Recorder, and record myself while doing exercises, and listen back to it again for any issues.
So, one of the new concepts for me. Is the positioning of the larynx. An important part of voice training, is getting your larynx above the vocal folds that are thickened by a male puberty. The daily exercises about turning that into a natural state. My baseline has already changed. With warm-ups currently, I do pretty well, but if I don’t speak for a while, my voice relaxes back down.
Today, I practiced resonance more. I don’t entirely understand the theory behind it. But basically, air flow bs happens and sounds come out. You can impact it based on where your voice is, but you will hit a point where your voice becomes falsetto. Also, I discovered a new talent which I may develop for memes later.
Another fun thing I learned, as an AMAB, it’s easy to cycle between a masc and feminine voice, since really all you need to do, is drop your larynx.
Oh and Don’t Forget, the daily Don’t Forget.
Also, one of the recommended exercises, was Disney princess voice. I haven’t tried it yet, but while I was writing, I decided to try and match Lara Shigihara’s rendition of Don’t Forget. There’s a weird shakiness to my voice when I go up to that pitch. Which I think I might be able to work through, but I’m not sure. I’ll need to learn what’s going on. I’m watching a ton of content on trans voice stuff atm, as it’s my current priority and seems very doable pre-HRT.
On the other end of the spectrum, shave-land. I tried Nair, it took a lot of effort and didn’t work particularly well. But going over stuff with a razor again did help, so I think I just need to maintain a shaving routine. Also, despite a pretty clean shave, I still get a little bit of five o’clock shadow. I think the only real solution for that is going to be makeup, until I can get laser hair removal. Going to experiment with makeup on the weekend.
Bippity Boppity, I think that’s all folks. Or whatever.
Outros are hard too.
